1-1-1: discipline december and getting our sh*t together
read about the discipline december era, my favourite wellness habits (and the ones I actually do), and some podcast updates!
december, 2023
edition 44.
I’m sitting in my living room full body SHIVERING because it has dipped below negative celcius in london (okay I’m being dramatic because today it’s 6c) and I am plotting my escape back to california and back to the warmth and sun!
I was supposed to be in munich last weekend but, if you’re an avid IG story watcher, you would know that I spent my weekend in different coffee shops. my first solo trip and it got cancelled… but it was also the best thing that has happened in a long time? if you’re interested in hearing more, the episode should show up on my beacons page or anywhere you listen to podcasts (search ‘solidarity on the bench with katie eu’ and look for ‘discipline december’).
otherwise, I have some big changes coming for 2024. I don’t want to say too much but you should def keep an eye out on this newsletter + my instagram broadcast channel!
you can expect one email from me every week containing:
one quote that has been inspiring me
one journal prompt
one piece of advice*

podcast
new episode about my new 'discipline december’ challenge + ways to implement habits — listen to all my past episodes here <3
one quote
“everyone says discipline is so important, but they never wanna tell you why. I’ll tell you why discipline is so important. it’s the strongest form of self-love. it’s ignoring what you want right now for something better later on.
disciple reveals the commitment you have to your dreams. especially on the days you don’t want to. the future you depends on the current you for the promises you made yesterday.”
—jordan ferrone (from this reel)
one journal prompt
what is one thing you know you should do right now and you just need to step up and do it?
one piece of advice
“it's so easy to feel overwhelmed by all the wellness content on social media nowadays. what would you say is a good way to *actually* start taking care of myself?”
not a plug for the podcast (again) I swear but I’m actually going to be talking about this topic on @solidaritypod with @ugh.niina which will come out sometime in the new year! for now, here are some of my word vomit thoughts:
about wellness content:
take what resonates, leave what doesn’t: something I also say often in reference to my content and my newsletter. wellness on social media can mean so many different things and I know I personally don’t have 5 extra hours in my day to gua sha, do yoga for 20 mins, cold plunge, meditate, and visualise my day while also getting 8 hours of sleep. I try a new trending habit and, if I enjoy it, try to incorporate it into my routine. if it doesn’t work for me, that’s okay! but the important thing is not to beat yourself up for the things you can’t incorporate.
knowledge without action is not helpful: I talk through my difficulty implementing all of my ~mindset shifts~ and wellness knowledge on the new podcast episode that was released today! I also talk about some helpful ways to start new habits — go listen if ya want!
wellness habits are only effective if you are consistent with them.
about the habits themselves:
I can’t tell you which wellness habits you should start doing because we’re all so different. different lifestyles, different preferences, and different levels of capacity to take care of ourselves. I’ll tell you the wellness habits I personally do in my life, along with how many times I perform them, in hopes that you will use this as a guideline and not as a bible.
active movement — 4x a week during the winter months
soulcycle — 1x a week
I also use this as a social activity
lifting — 3x a week
this is a solo, rest & recharge activity
journaling — every night for 15 mins before bed
reading — realistically 4x a week but I want to read every night before bed
skincare — every day
my skincare routine is so simple as I’m battling hyperpigmentation and dry weather but I make sure I wash my face 2x a day and latherrrr moisturizer on!
10,000 steps a day — every day
10,000 is such an arbitrary number but, I can’t lie, it makes me feel more accomplished when I hit it
10k a day is easier in a walkable city; I would not hold myself to this standard if I was still living in the suburbs / in a primarily driving city
some habits I want to implement more consistently:
stretching/yoga — everyday
I already do warm up and cool down stretches when I go to the gym but I want to be more intentional with this
drink water when I wake up
sometimes I drink 500ml of water an hour after I wake up because I’m taking more supplements in the winter months but I want to be more consistent with this
take supplements daily
the ones I’m taking right now are vitamin d, magnesium, turmeric, and probiotics
the vitamin d and magnesium are mainly to combat seasonal depression
the turmeric is for better workout recovery and reducing inflammation, especially since I’m not a huge turmeric-as-a-spice person in cooking
the probiotics is for my IBS <3
the conversation with nina is going to touch more on the unrealistic standards of the wellness universe (think of the ‘that girl’ and ‘clean girl’ aesthetics), as well as our opinions on wellness as “wellness creators.” I’ll be posting more about the episode and when it drops over on @katie.eu and @solidaritypod so go follow those accounts to keep up to date on everything <3
