happy march and happy (mid-)pisces season! it’s my birth month which is always very exciting and I have a lot to look forward to in the month of march! I’ll be traveling and visiting some friends, and also have some friends visit me.
balancing life and sharing on social media is hard and I feel like every time I have a good grasp on it, it slips away. we’ll see how I do this month — your guess is as good as mine <3
you can expect one email from me every week containing:

one quote
“life isn’t black and white, but you can’t call it colourful either. it is actually what you make of it, so how you look at it matters a lot.”

one journal prompt
if my life would inevitably look like how I want it do, how would I live every day?
one piece of advice
“what are your thoughts on how to balance the ‘work hard now so you can rest easy in the future’ mindset vs the ‘live everyday to the fullest because you might die tomorrow mindset?’”
I definitely agree with the notion of working hard in the present, but it all goes back to balance. all work and no play isn’t good, but neither is all play and no work.
I think those two mindsets can coexist together. let me explain:
ONE: work hard now so you can rest easy in the future
there are actions you can take today that will benefit you in the future. examples: investing, both financially and emotionally; setting boundaries; cultivating a disciplined mindset; going to the gym; waking up early
actions and habits you implement in your life that you will continue to reap the benefits of years into the future are things that may not be easy in the current moment but are beneficial to do as early as possible.
TWO: live everyday to the fullest because you might die tomorrow
I absolutely think that we should find and cultivate moments of joy in each day (and this type of gratitude is a muscle to exercise!)
for the average person, ‘living everyday to the fullest’ doesn’t mean shirking your responsibilities in favour of traveling the world — that’s a small subset of people who take this phrase to the extreme. for the average person, ‘living everyday to the fullest’ means trying things out of your comfort zone, (sometimes) choosing friends over responsibilities, and making the most of each moment regardless of the task at hand (i.e. fully immersing yourself in the joy of studying and fully immersing yourself in the joy of hanging out with friends, depending on what you’re doing at the current moment).
it’s recognizing ways in which we can become more present in our daily lives. it’s realising that self love is both loving yourself where you’re at and pushing yourself to be better — or, in this case, having the self discipline to do uncomfortable tasks and also find moments of joy in your everyday life.
living in this grey area is hard. I know that I personally find it uncomfortable. once I recognize that two opposing opinions can be true, and can be true to me, I found the concept of balance to be easier as well.
until we meet again,
katie
