read about how to enjoy your alone time and find resources to become the best you.
november, 2024
edition 55.
I am SAT in my bed shaking (in a good way) (also because I am cold) because my masters grades came back today and I don’t know what to do with myself. ok I am being (hella) dramatic but I cannot believe that I have had to wait 3 months since my diss submission for my grades and I also cannot believe that my masters is over. like, receiving these grades closes that part of my life and it is such a bittersweet feeling. pls don’t mind me — I am just feeling alllll of the emotions of my grades + a full year in london + imposter syndrome + the likes.
some other updates from me:
I am now working w RUNNA!!!! I’ve been using their post-injury plan to get back from my tendon injury and I clocked *almost* 10 miles last week which I am very very VERY happy about. code KATIEEU will get u a 2 week free trial :-)

one journal prompt
if I were to give someone 10 facts about who I am, what would they be?
one piece of advice
“how do you learn to enjoy your own company?”
as someone who previously spent a lot of time by myself, here are my biggest tips:
start slow and start small. when I was first starting to love my alone time, I thought a meal out by myself was the most daunting thing ever. but what I could do was go to a coffee shop, order, and come home.
along the same lines, start with things you already feel comfortable doing. if you know you like a specific drink from a coffee shop, try going there and ordering by yourself. work up to ordering ‘for here’ and sitting in the shop by yourself for 5 minutes, then 10 minutes, then 30 minutes.
do it uncomfortable: doing things alone can be really really scary but don’t let the anxiety of the first five minutes put you off doing something altogether. (if you’re truly feeling overwhelmed, it’s okay to take a step back or leave. but if you’re struggling to even take the first step, try to do it uncomfortable).
realise the freedom of doing things by yourself. no one is going to disagree with your restaurant choice or make you rush away from your favourite painting at the museum.
make a plan and stick to it just like you would with someone else. I find that physically scheduling solo dates into my calendar help me to maximize my time and help me enjoy it, instead of watching the clock drag by.
an example: choose a coffee shop you’ve always wanted to try and go for a walk in the park afterwards (walk a loop with no pressure to sit down/be out for more than 15 minutes)
another example: go to the museum for an hour and spend all the time in your favourite sections (see the above point! no one is fighting you!)
being with yourself should be fun! while some experiences are nice to have with other people, make sure you have fun experiences with yourself as well. it’s like using positive reinforcement to teach you how to love your own company!
finally, learn how to ‘date yourself’ — I have a post on instagram from last summer which you may find helpful as well :)
